Celebrating the opening of two projects in the Al Mazunah Free Zone at a cost of 9.5 million Omani riyals

December 24, 2024

The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) celebrated today the opening of the Al Mazyouna Free Zone Development Project and the Services and Facilities Building Project as part of the General Secretariat's National Celebrations Programme for the inauguration of national projects across the Sultanate's governorates.

The opening ceremony was sponsored by His Excellency Engineer Ahmed bin Hassan Al Dheeb, Vice Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones. The inauguration of these two projects comes as part of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn)'s efforts to develop the infrastructure needed to prepare the Al Mazunah Free Zone to become an economic contributor in line with Oman Vision 2040.

Saeed bin Muslim Zaabnout, Director of Investor Services at Al Mazunah Free Zone, delivered a speech in which he pointed out that the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) has completed the development project of Al Mazunah Free Zone, which includes the first phase (Package Two), and the second and third phases, covering a total area of 1.5 million square meters, at a total cost of six million Omani riyals. This brings the developed area of the zone to 3 million square meters out of the total area of the zone, which exceeds 15 million square meters.

He added that the developed lands are ready for investment and are provided with basic services, as the project includes the construction of a road network with a length of (15.5) kilometers, the construction of sewage drainage networks with a length of (20.1) kilometers with inspection rooms, and they are connected to a collection tank with a capacity of (600) cubic meters, the construction of water extension networks and fire extinguishing systems networks with a length of (13.6) kilometers, the construction of underground and overhead water tanks with a capacity of approximately 1900 cubic meters and the implementation of road lighting works with the necessary electrical connections in addition to the construction of a rest building for truck drivers. He pointed out that the Al Mazunah Free Zone witnessed active commercial activity during the year 2023 AD, as the total commercial transactions completed amounted to (18,624) transactions, including 5,623 deposit operations and 7,853 exit operations, in addition to 472 storage contract transactions and 3,290 handling requests. 88 retail requests and 32 investment requests were dealt with, indicating that 17 lease contracts were localized, 25 activity licenses were issued, and 1,224 visitor permits, 185,000 tons, and 3,491 vehicles were dealt with.

Ahmed bin Munir Al Balushi, from Shumookh Investment and Services Company, said that the services and facilities building project in Al Mazunah Free Zone is intended to be a future industrial hub, providing the best services to investors, employers, companies operating in the zone, and visitors, exceeding international standards. This is part of the company's role, as the investment arm of Madayn, in investing in industrial cities in line with Oman Vision 2040.

He added that the building was constructed on an area of approximately 11,000 square meters, at a total cost of approximately three million and five hundred thousand Omani riyals. The building consists of four floors, in addition to 300 outdoor parking spaces. It includes administrative and commercial offices, banking services, retail and food stores, and multi-purpose halls.

The event included a visual presentation on the components and phases of the Al Mazunah Free Zone development project, delivered by Eng. Saleh bin Salman Al Abri, Director General of Facilities and Infrastructure at Madayn, along with a poem recited on the occasion.

The total number of companies that have been localized in the Al Mazunah Free Zone has reached approximately 220 projects over the past five years, covering industrial, commercial, and logistics activities.

The Al Mazunah Free Zone development project stems from Madayn's commitment to achieving the zone's strategic vision as a free economic zone that contributes to increasing regional competitiveness in attracting investments from around the world. It also embodies its mission of creating a collaborative relationship with the private sector to develop infrastructure, supported by a package of exemptions and facilities, and building a foundation for cooperation and joint coordination with all official bodies and the business sector, both locally and regionally.

In the field of improving logistics services, Madayn was able to obtain a global code (OMAMZ), and Al Mazyouna Dry Port was approved as the final destination for goods entering and leaving the zone. To maintain the security and safety of facilities in the Al Mazyouna Free Zone, it was equipped with an integrated security system equipped with the latest surveillance devices, and a gate operator was appointed to monitor and track trucks and control entry and exit operations.

It's worth noting that the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) is working on future development plans for the Al Mazunah Free Zone, including the establishment of an integrated residential city, the development of the fourth phase, and the attraction of companies operating in the field of support services, such as money exchange, banks, and shipping companies. It also aims to hold trade fairs to stimulate commercial activity.
